Ugandan 'gay' name list out
45 printed first names and professions or areas of work of alleged homosexual men list is out.
"It's one of the interesting things for people to read in a tabloid because in African societies homosexuality is still seen as strange,"
The 45 names are not yet known to the government (homosexuals) and the police has never pulled out to investigate the list. Uganda is really very tolerant. Yet Gay and lesbian community in Uganda has long been stigmatized and harassed by the government.
"For years, President Yoweri Museveni routinely threatens and vilifies lesbians and gays, and subjects sexual rights activists to harassment," but every one is wondering if up to now his government hasn’t taken an reaction against this hopeless move.
"At a moment when sensational publicity has spread fear among a whole community, the authorities must exercise their responsibility to protect, not persecute."
However, people were paranoid about having their names (gays and lesbians printed in the paper.
Homosexuality in Uganda it’s been a paramount factor as far as demoralizing the African culture is concerned.
