Uganda Legislator Who Drafted Homosexuality Bill Faces UK Travel Ban
The member of Parliament who drafted and introduced the anti-homosexuality bill in Uganda probably did not understand when he set out on this task. I bet if he had known how much international scrutiny, pressure and debate this bill would cause, he probably would have backed down. But from the his ties with The Family, a Christian ministry of believers greatly opposed to homosexuality, one can argue that the anti-homosexuality bill is a pre-meditated and discussed document by the members of this organization.

Among all the the threats that are coming through like cutting off development aid, the noble member of parliament David Bahati is also facing a travel ban to UK, if the bill is passed into law in the Ugandan parliament. The Guardian reports that Civil servants in the Foreign Office, the Department for International Development and the Borders Agency are making plans to block the visa to UK of MP David Bahati. The article continues quoting an unnamed source that the issue would become "major diplomatic incident if the Ugandans do not back down"
MP David Bahati does not feel threatened at all and continues his defiance. He says he will go ahead to push for the bill to become law to protect the future of Uganda's children. The anti-homosexuality bill proposes "the death penalty for people who have previous convictions, are HIV-positive, or engage in same sex acts with people under 18 years of age."
I always fall back to this statement when puzzled on how to deal with a situation in my life and I will be glad to share it with you. Always live and let live.
Let me leave you with statements of the men at the centre of passing the anti-homosexuality bill into law:
“We are happy that we are involved in this issue of attacking homosexuality head on … It is not an easy task. Combating homosexuality is not easy. There is massive recruitment in schools mostly single-sex schools."David Bahati, author of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill
“We should remind them (the donors) that there is integrity to be defended and threats are not the way to go. If one chooses to withdraw their aid, they are free because Ugandans do not want to engage in anal sex. We do not care.” Ethics and Integrity Minister James Nsaba Buturo
“If you agree to steal, to an extent that you allow corruption, open theft of public goods and money to be the norm, then who are you to condemn those who are not even harming society” Hon Prof. Ogenga Latigo, Leader of the Opposition
“We used to have very few homosexuals traditionally. They were not persecuted but were not encouraged either because it was clear that is not how God arranged things to be.”President Yoweri Museveni
