Two birds in one shot
Two birds in one shot. That seems to be the motif behind the Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's recent act in which the octogenarian, wily politician has catapulted his 21-year-old grandson, Aditya Thackeray, to active politics.

By launching this young third generation Thackeray into politics, the tiger of Mumbai intends to arrest the growing popularity of two budding leaders-- his once lieutenant and nephew Raj Thackeray and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Both these leaders have been giving sleeping nights to the Sena for some time now.
The Shiv Sena patriarch, who day in and day out accuses Congress Party of promoting dynastic politics, did just the same by presenting a sword to Aditya Thackeray to welcome the generation next of the Thackeray family. Aditya Thackeray will head the youth wing of the Shiv Sena.
Now Aditya will be the young face in the party to match the charisma of Raj Thackeray and Rahul Gandhi. In fact, the influence of Raj Thackeray in Maharashtra politics has been growing ever since he fell off with his uncle, Bal Thackeray and formed a new party named Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). That he is growing by leaps and bounds is evident from the fact that the MNS numbers in the elected bodies in the state have been swelling ever since the formation of the MNS.
Apart from Raj Thackeray, Rahul Gandhi's career graph has been skyrocketing in the state, especially in the urban areas including the Sena bastion of Mumbai. The Gandhi scion's last visit to Mumbai has been such a hit among the common people, that it made the Sena sit up and think.
But the question that is being asked in the political circle is, will the third generation Thackeray be able to rein in Raj and Rahul?
Only time will tell.
