Turkish Mother And Family Arrested In 'Honor Killing' Death Of Newborn Baby Girl
When one thinks of honor killings, one automatically pictures a bunch of ignorant, hateful adults murdering other adults for some perceived misdemeanour that they believe has sullied the honor of their family name. Some of the more obvious reasons are adultery, but people have been killed for as little as having become too westernized, or married against the parents' wishes. The perpetrators feel totally justified in their actions. And as horrendous as it is that anyone is killed to defend the honor of another individual or individuals, there are no words to adequately describe what killing a child in the name of honor might be. But it seems age has no limits when it comes to honor killings, at least in the rural, poor areas of Turkey.

7 people were directly and indirectly responsible for killing a 2-day-old baby that was deemed an 'honor killing'.
Turkish police Friday detained an unmarried mother and six other people near Istanbul for their suspected role in the so-called "honor killing" of a 2-day-old baby girl, state news agency Anatolian said.
The baby was suffocated by her grandmother after the family learned the 25-year-old mother became pregnant out of wedlock, Anatolian said.
"My family decided to kill my baby," the mother told the police, according to Anatolian. "My 55-year-old mother choked the baby with a cloth. Then, my brothers buried the baby in a hole in the garden and covered the hole with cement."
A total innocent, that had no choice in the matter of her birth, killed in cold-blood by her shameful, shame-filled family. A family that could kill a child as easily as if she was a dying dog you shoot to put it out of its misery, and bury in the backyard. Unceremoniously dumped into a hole. It's unconscionable. Apparently, the murder would have gone undetected had it not been for an anonymous tip to the police.
But it wasn't just the family of the baby girl who were arrested, the doctor and his assistant were complicit in the matter, having been paid off to keep their mouths shut and not register the baby's birth.
The only one not involved with the father of the baby girl, who is currently serving in the military.
