Finally, a feud in the Arab music scene.
Tunisian artist Hayat Jabnon, who is hardly known outside of Tunisia, has recently asserted that Lebanese sensation Haifa Wehbe stole one of her songs.
The song in question is "Assolah," which is Tunisian slang. Hayat states - without proof - that Haifa took the song from her before Hayat cold perform it and that Haifa went around Tunisia singing it.
The song was written and composed by Tunisian musician Iz Al Deen Al Baji, and is on Hayat's latest album.
Hayat then went on to state that she is a cultural icon because she has been singing in the Arab world for 15 years while Haifa is nothing more than an up-and-comer manufactured by a Lebanese media company with resources that Tunisian companies lack.
Personal, I don't care. I thought you might. But I do believe that Hayat is making this up. She is obviously bitter about Haifa's overshadowing success and her assertion that Haifa took the song sounds incredibly unlikely. First, Hayat provides no scenario when and where Haifa could have met the Tunisian producer. And her assertion that Haifa went around singing it in Tunisia is blatantly false since Haifa was conducted no tour in Tunisia. So it further undermines her credibility.
