POLITICS. .

What would possess a parent to put their child in a clothes dryer and turn it on. It happens often enough that you have to ask, why?

Ignorance, stupidity or downright evil. Some have blamed it on stupidity, but for the most part it's just plain evil.

The latest case has an Ohio dad, 36-year-old Steve McLairin, allegedly putting his 7 year-old daughter (who happens to have a growth problem and is only 3 feet tall) in the dryer and then turning it on. And this wasn't the only time, he had apparently done it before.

"There's no explaining this type of activity, why any individual would place any human being or any animal or anything in a dryer is unexplainable and to a normal thinking person, there's no explanation and obviously this man has issues," said Mike O'Malley, First Assistant to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason.

Issues? What an understatement, then again if you look at his eyes in the picture he does seem a little looney. Who knows why he placed her in the dryer, but it might have continued had not the little girl told her teacher who then reported it to authorities.

He's been charged with the following and faces up to 33 years in jail:

.. two counts of endangering children, felonious assault, kidnapping and domestic violence.

I'm not sure why he has been charged with kidnapping, but there was no mention of the mother.

Then back in 2008, a man in Kansas burned his girlfriend's kids in the dryer, a 3-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.

In a videotaped interview with detectives shown in court Wednesday, Aron Pritchard said he put the children in the dryer to show them they could have a good time without much money. An hour later, the dryer had become hot and the boy had second-degree burns.

He'd have to be pretty stupid to not realize that a hot dryer will burn. Granted, there are those who are pretty damn ignorant, but a pediatrician testifying for the prosecution stated that given the current dryer burns in addition to previous injuries sustained by the boy, including a clavicle that was broken on 2 separate occasions could be a result of domestic violence. As it turns out, he put the children in the dryer as punishment for the young boy wetting his pants. He was eventually convicted of child endangerment.

A 19-year-old Arizona man, Jose Rocha, deliberately turned the dryer on while his son played inside a dryer. The child was 1-year old. The father was jailed.

Then there's the horrific case of a little Maori girl in New Zealand, tortured in the dryer while two adult brothers, her 35-year-old mother and several others laughed about it. She was also tortured in other unimaginable ways, but what ultimately killed her was a kick in the head that eventually led to her death in the hospital.

The frightening thing is these aren't isolated cases, google baby in dryer and there are plenty more instances of babies being killed by people who have placed them in a dryer.
