Torture of Children Rising in Punjab
Violence against women is not the only issue faced by the biggest province of the country but child torture is being reported more frequently now from the Punjab province. Latest in this connection has left one child killed, after being raped, and a minor girl clubbed to death by her employer-cum-religious teacher.

The first incident, and a most shocking one beyond doubt, was reported from Faisalabad where a four-year-old boy was sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old guy. The child cried aloud when raped and was drawing attention, which scared the teenager and he killed the child to silence him. After the child’s father declared him missing and the police was informed, the killer was arrested and he confessed to the police of raping and killing the child. He also told about the sugarcane filed where had dumped the body to hide his crime.
In the second incident, reported from Muzaffargarh, two sisters, aged 12 and 7, from a poor family were tortured by their religious teacher at whose house they also worked, helping with household chores. The teacher named Pinko Mai called the father of the girls to come and collect her daughters as one of them had fainuted. Upon reaching the house, the man found the house locked. He broke in and found both his girls injured, one unconscious, the other too traumatized to say anything. When rushed to the hospital, the 12-year-old unconscious girl was declared dead, her skull having been spily by the cruel woman’s stick with which she beat the girls. The woman and her family is missing and the police is searching them to charge them with murder.
Such horrible incidents are almost regularly being reported now in news, especially from the Punjab province where the poor segment of population is an object of constant torture and abuse. Last month, one terrible incident of such nature had resulted in the hospitalization of two children due to torture by a seminary teacher in Rahim Yar Khan, the district in Punjab province where some 800 cases of burning women with acid were reported in the year 2010.
