Top Cyber Criminal Caught In France

POLITICS. .

There's not much that I despise. I'm a pretty easy going, tolerant person, but when someone tries to harm another human being I don't hold much love for them. And cyber criminals are among those I despise. I think that anyone who maliciously hacks, creates a virus or does anything else Internet-related to harm another individual deserves to be thrown in jail for life, with the key conveniently thrown away. Same goes for commercial spammers. They are the scum of the earth and deserve to be punished severely as well. So when I hear that some Internet scammer gets caught, it's cause for much celebration.

Scamming comes in many different forms including the Nigerian 419 scam, although that is partially the victim's fault for being so naive to believe that some rich Ivory Coast banker is going to give them a ton of money in return for helping them out. There are other scams that we have no control over like those who hack people's credit card numbers and sell them or plaster them over the Internet for everyone to see, and use.

27-year-old Ukrainian Vladislav Horohorin is one such cyber criminal who will be out of commission, hopefully, for a very long time, after he was arrested on the French Riviera as he was boarding a plane to Moscow at the Nice airport. A fugitive, Horhorin is

.. known online as 'BadB' - is wanted for the trafficking of stolen credit card information on a 'global scale'.

The American Secret Service described him as 'one of its five most wanted cyber criminals in the world'.

Secret Service assistant investigations director Michael Merritt, who led the global hunt for Horohorin, said: 'His network remains one of the most sophisticated organizations of online financial criminals in the world.

'It has been repeatedly linked to nearly every major intrusion of financial information reported to the international law enforcement community.'

Horohorin is suspected of using online criminal forums -known as 'dumps' - called CarderPlanet, carder.su, and badb.biz to sell stolen credit card data.

His is also said to have helped create the world's only fully automated stolen credit card data site available to buyers worldwide, according to U.S. court documents.

The site Badb.biz welcomes visitors with a cartoon showing Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin awarding gold medals to cyber criminals. It claims credit for stealing information from one million Americans and boasts: 'We are awaiting you to fight the imperialism of the USA. That way we invest U.S. funds in Russian economy and make it grow bigger.'

As with most cases when people are caught, Secret Service agents posed as potential buyers. He has been a fugitive since he was indicted for "access device fraud and aggravated identity theft" in 2009.

Unfortunately, the miscreant will only get, if he's convicted, 12 years jail time and £400,000 fine. Which means he will no doubt be able to go back to his criminal ways upon release.

I still say life without parole and no computer access.
