Tinkle Unkle Gone…
There wouldn’t be a kid, especially an Indian kid, who’ d have grown up without being aware of the most popular Indian comic fortnightly magazine, Tinkle. ‘Tinkle’… brings up a sense of nostalgia of childhood.
Even adults don’t hesitate to take a glance and they swear by the book that the comic book is both entertaining and informative. This magazine is capable of drawing out the juvenile instincts out of every person.
This wonderful gift relished and cherished by all ages alike is an endeavor of Amar Chitra Katha, fathered by Mr. Anant Pai, popularly known as Uncle Pai among the juvenile lot.

A bad news for Tinkle fans…Uncle Pai has left for the heavenly abode when the world was almost vis-a-vis with the dusk of 24th February, 2011. He succumbed to a massive heart attack. He was 81.
He was born on 17th September, 1929 in Karkala district of Karnataka to Venkataraya and Susheela Pai. He is survived by his wife Lalitha. The couple had no children.
He was a simple writer and illustrator who loved telling fun stories. Yet, he was unarguably the most-loved ‘Uncle’ for lakhs of young Indians who could read English and were born after the passing of ‘Chacha Nehru’. He was just ‘Uncle Pai’ for several generations who grew up on the beautifully illustrated and simply narrated stories in Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle. Pai reintroduced India to young Indians and taught them about their roots and culture in a fun, non-preachy way that became an essential part of their growing-up years. There was no way of not being enamored of Tinkle, with its colorful cast of characters such as Shikari Shambhu, Kaalia the Crow, Suppandi and Tantri the Mantri, if one grew up in India during the 1980s and 1990s.
He was a hero among the children and a wonderful human being. Let us bow down to this irreplaceable soul and his contributions to the world of comics and literature. A Kudos to the legend.
