Threatened Red Cross Closes Work in Quetta
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has closed its offices in Quetta (Balochistan) after receiving threats from unknown people n Friday (May 14, 2010). This succeeds a threatening letter sent recently to ICRC office in Quetta.

According to news sources, some unnamed person called the ICRC office in Quetta on Friday and threatened to attack the organization’s office due to their discriminatory attitude toward Baloch people. The caller threatened to attack the office with grenades and rockets.
Following the threatening call, the organization decided to close all its offices in Balochistan till further notice. Two offices in Quetta have already been closed and the foreign staff of the organization has been shifted to hotels while security has been tightened at the premises of the offices.
According to preliminary investigation of the case by the police, the caller used a satellite phone in making his threatening call to the ICRC office. His exact location, however, could not be determined. ICRC official Adrian Zimmermann has said that ICRC will continue its relief operations in Balochistan.
