This Isn't a Urinal, Is It?
Those poor, naive Americans! 'O how they get lost in Europe! They just do not know their way around Europe. Currency exchange is hard enough, but then there is etiquette, food, tipping, ect... Ect...
Some Americans are truly rude in all this and play effectively and quite properly the role of the 'Ugly American'. Meaning that they expect European customs to adopt to them instead of the other way around as the tourist and guest in their country.
They expect, say, French waiters to be able to speak in English. This is incredibly offensive and underpinned by the obnoxious American superiority complex. That Americans - coming from the most powerful nation in the world - should be treated with deference overseas, that people have to accommodate them and their ways, while they being the ostensibly superior Americans need not take the time to learn the cultures let alone the languages of others.
But then there are those innocent, unsuspecting Americans who truly misunderstand foreign custom and get in trouble for it. You have to feel sorry for them. They meant no harm. They are not trying to offend anyone. They are just trying to have a good time but them - entirely caught off guard - make a mistake in custom and pay the price for it. Like this poor guy:
You have to feel sorry for him. That's just awful! But he did not know. I mean, he was the so naive America so as to be so naive as to assume that the Dutch (I believe this is Holland) would only piss in the portables and not out in the open in a urinal tube of some sort. How was he to know that the Dutch like to piss in the wind?
Poor guy. Ugh!!!
