The ugly face of reality television

LIFESTYLE. .

In the name of reality the Indian Television these days is flooded with a lot of reality soaps. The channels in the race for better TRPs and publicity indianised a lot of western shows starting from that of "Kaun Banega Crorepati" and brought them on to the small Indian screen.

Initially the Indian audience received it very well and seeing its success an era of reality television started. With Roadies to fear factor the audience a had a wide choice to choose from quiz, to adventure.

And then came NDTV imagine's much talked about and accordng to me the most ridiculous show of all times "Rakhi Ka Swayamwar." Where ever hungry for media limelight an insane Rakhi Sawant decided to marry on the small screen. Again it turned futile as most men turned up for the show were gold diggers rather than prince charming.

One of the most good and socially relevant shows aired on Star Tv was Aapki Kachehari with a lady of the stature of Kiran Bedi helping a few solve their problems through mediation, where it really seemed useful. As if these issues over trivial matters might have taken a long time to resolve in the complicated judicial process.

Yesterday there was a news that a man committed suicide after he was called a "namard" by Rakhi in the show hosted by her on NDTV Imagine called Rakhi Ka Insaaf. The mother and the wife of the deceased were crying and it is true that even if the channel makes a handsome monitory compensation, it cannot return to them their son or the husband.

I am not a regular viewer of the show, but have seen it once and the manner in which the show is hosted by Rakhi is extremely horrible and impermissible.

Dirty language and insults to the participants with icing over the cake is Rakhi's truly hyper insensitive approach in dealing with the human emotions.

This makes me remember Gudiya, whose fate was also decided like this in the past on a television, when she was expecting and living with her new husband but was made to return to her ex husband who was thought to be dead but was back again after years, and just because of some religious and so called social obligations Gudiya had to return to him.

We all know what had happened then. A few day after delivering the baby Gudiya died. May be it was more of grief than an illness that took her away.

But unfortunately learning no lesson from the past and in the absence of any strong parameters or censorship to check the ugly show of reality goes onn...
