I would amend the saying: Everything is rotten in the state of Denmark to “Everything is rotten when it comes to science and technology here.” The current state of science and technology in Pakistan is far worse than most terrible imagination.
A lot is being said about the research going on in various sectors and the unlimited finances that are poured in on the name of developmental projects which in reality, barely exist. How many of our scientists have ever done something that is worth mentioning? I hardly know anyone who has ever truly worked methodically.
There are rarely any laboratories in our educational institutions that are in functioning order and effortlessly reachable to students. In case IF BY CHANCE coincidence there is a lab, there are no instruments to work with. All the scientific work is cramped to textbooks and emphasis is on memorizing these books. There is no practical approach to it.
On top of that ALL the textbooks are borrowed from the west. The research done is almost 80% copied from somewhere and reproduced. Students of various disciplines of science follow the same trend and show least interest in practical work. It seems as if we are still in the archaic times when it comes to technology. So many projects have been planned and huge budgets allocated for these but nothing concrete is done when it comes to ground reality.
