The journey of a word in Bollywood!
We all grow! In the movie industry not only actors, film makers and technicians evolve in their art over a period of time, but there are few more elements as well that undergo a remarkable change as time progress. Like the change of response and opinion of viewers towards a particular story of a movie. An apt example is Kagaz Ke Phool and Mera Naam Joker. The movies received a lukewarm response, when they were initially released, but over the years the perception has changed for good. But why is this, a common trait in our society? First we reject and latter we accept.

What transpires that makes us change our views?
Similar is the story of a particular word in the Bollywood film industry. The word is ‘Sexy’! It was 1994 and the movie was Khuddar. One song from this movie became a chartbuster. The music was good, but there was an ‘X’ factor that was associated with this song. The word sexy was repeatedly used in the song. Frankly I got introduced to the word through this song. I remember there was an uproar in the nation over the use of this word; finally it had to be changed to ‘Baby’.
Time flies fast and over the years this word has repeatedly been used in different songs. Even characters were named after this word. A recent example is the name of Amitabh Bachan’s character in the movie Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. But an interesting observation is that even child characters have been named after this word, take the example of the character of the little neighbour of Amitabh Bhachan in Cheeni Kum, the little girl is repeatedly addressed by this word. Most recently a movie was released and the name is Love, Sex aur Dhokha. The title song is played aloud all throughout the day in radio FM channels. It has indeed been an incredible journey from sexy to sex. But I still wonder, what exactly transpired that made this word acceptable?
Let me remind you the meaning of the word still remains same! And if we say that the society has changed then why do some business establishments prefer to beef up the security of their shops every year on Valentine’s Day.
