The Anti-Defamation League's Jewish Supremacist Doctrine

Of course, there is nothing new here. The Anti-Defamation League is an incredibly hypocritical organization. This is an institution which claims as its ostensible mission to stand against all forms and manifestations of bigotry. And that was once its genuine cause. The ADL was created in response to a horrific anti-Semitic lynching of a Jewish man in the American South.

But Zionism has been a corrupting influence. The leadership’s zealous commitment to the state of Israel has lead them to pay only token rhetorical effort against prejudice as the new mission become to act as a lobby on behalf of Israel and to smear all critics as anti-Semitic in an insidious effort to silence debate on Israel’s occupation and wars against the Palestinians. And as part of that effort that ADL has not only often joined an an anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab and anti-Muslim chorus here in the United State (albeit their rhetoric is often coached in a scholarly veneer) but has also failed to condemn anti-Semites due solely to a strategic calculation because such anti-Semites are also pro-Zionist.

This latter reality extends not only to the Christian Right whose Christian Zionism is incredibly imbued with Antisemitism, but even to still more vulgar White Supremacists.

So recently that ADL came out opposed to the Park51 Islamic community center or - media-dubbed - “Ground Zero mosque.” The organization issue token words about constitutional rights but then went on to negate the very purpose of those rights by calling on the developers to seek a location farther from Ground Zero.

But this isn't new. anti-Arab and anti-Islam prejudice is routine for pro-Israel Jewish organizations who have long demeaned and attacked Arabs and Muslims solely because they want to dehumanize them and thus make it harder for Americans to sympathize with Palestinians and instead reserve exclusive support for Israel. That is the game. But they are now simply just a lot more open and frank about their prejudice and phoniness in claiming they fight against defamation.

And the ADL is doubly racist: not only does it demean other people, but then - in another stroke of racism - preach an supremacist doctrine that Jews are better than all others:

Did you see this statement from Abe Foxman of the ADL responding to the Catholic bishops gathering that called for an end to the occupation?

"We write to protest the shocking and outrageous anti-Jewish comments made by Greek Melkite Archbishop Cyril Salim Bustros in connection with the final communique of the Bishops Synod on the Middle East. By stating that God's Covenantal promise of land to the Jewish people, "was nullified by Christ" and that "there is no longer a chosen people," Archbishop Bustros is effectively stating that Judaism should no longer exist. This represents the worst kind of anti-Judaism, bordering on anti-Semitism."

It seems to me that Christians ought to be able to say that they're the equals of Jews and everybody else without being called anti-Jewish, and without being told that they're saying Judaism should no longer exist. One can believe that Judaism should exist and can even believe that Jews regard themselves as God's chosen people while believing that all people are equal. Bustros:

The advent of Jesus, he said, meant that Jews “are no longer the preferred people, the chosen people. All men and women of all countries have become the chosen people.” Bustros added that “sacred Scripture should not be used to justify the occupation by Israel of Palestine.”

If a non-Jew says that he or she is the equal of a Jew, surely that is not borderline anti-Semitism. And if one professes that he or she is chosen by God, surely that is not borderline anti-Semitism.

Foxman is simply putting words in his mouth when he indicates that Bustros said, "Judaism should no longer exist." In his angry letter to a cardinal protesting the statement, Foxman calls into question the equality of everyone else. Other religions can't believe that everybody is chosen? "Archbishop Bustros contradicts decades of official Vatican and papal teachings which affirm God's ongoing Covenant with the Jewish people at Sinai, and calls on Christians to appreciate the Jewish people's religious self-understanding, including its spiritual attachment to the land of Israel."

Yes, perhaps I'm hopelessly naive, but Foxman seems to be pushing a dangerous line that implicitly exalts his religious group over others. Sure, I wish Bustros had said that Jews have every right to regard themselves as chosen, but that he believed something else. But what he did say doesn't seem nearly as hard-hitting (and supremacist) as the response from Foxman which I read as saying Jews are God's chosen people and that's he's not prepared to acknowledge that others may think that they too are chosen and equal in God's eyes. If Foxman does believe that, I sure wish he had said it. I regard this Bustros-Foxman argument as important and suspect that most are terrified to address it and aware that they lack the words and historical grounding to weigh in with a full range of the facts and understanding of the relevant beliefs.

Antisemitism? It is now antisemitism if you simply believe that Jews are equal with everyone else?! What deluded madness. Jews can think they are "chosen", just as Muslims believe they are chosen, JUST LIKE ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE BEST! But that's for you to believe for your own solace, not to impose on everyone else and, no less, decry someone as a bigot because they refuse to adhere to your religious doctrine and simply says that all are equal. This is the idiocy of this stupid organization. And Abe Foxman and the ADL are just as extreme and vulgar as Islamic radical supremacists who also demand that people submit to a belief that Muslims are superior.

Same obnoxious bullshit, just one of them wears ties and has a building in New York.
