All people have their own needs, wants and desires. Be it a new born baby, a crawling child, walking kid, school goers, teens, adults or old people – every person has wants from womb to tomb.

Today, with the changing economy, number of gadgets, hectic life schedules teens of next gen are desperate to have a social life. Why teens feel a desperate need to have social life and be liked by others is the question of concern for a number of parents in this new age.

Some says it is just because teens are hasty...they want to get everything faster ...so is the fame and name. They want everything early in their lives. It is a new roller coaster ride and they feel what they want is all in life. If a teen gets a thing he wants he is on Cloud Nine. But on facing rejection or coming across a failure can break him/her down. The stress and depression sprouts at this age tend to last longer.

According to Priya, a call center employee and mother of a teen, “It is human nature to be sociable and want to be accepted and it is a major part of life in teenage years”.

Most teens voice in the debates to show their want to belong and feel accepted. They think that ****’s important. If they get it, it is great or they’ll learn otherwise in due time. They want their own place. The peer pressure, self-esteem and influence of movies make them give a thought of having their space from parents and also siblings. The teens are increasingly eager to spend time away from home with friends of both sexes. It is really cool to think so, says Arun, a teenager.

It is all about being popular and getting noticed. They are desperate to get recognition. The infamy kids turn to loneliness. If a child starts leaving alone or loves lonesomeness, he is in the dark and needs help.

They often have trouble making friends who need the support of the caring adults in their lives so they can develop the social skills and confidence to overcome loneliness. Such children fall pray for pessimists and the negative peer pressure results in encouraging experimentation with alcohol or other drugs

Teens go through many emotional and physical changes that leave them confused as hell. They don’t understand what is right and not able to judge the incorrect things many times. At such a tender age the parents and elders need to be supportive rather than questioning, explaining always helps. So befriend your teen to give him/her a heavenly life. “It is no longer going somewhere, but being somebody at this age”.

Do the following to help your child:

* Help practice social skills safely

* Seek help for persistent problems

* Don’t question, ask politely
