Teen Hired Schoolmate To Kill Mum Because She Was Too Strict
Danish Moazzam Minhas (17) and his mother, Tabassum Khan (43), moved to Houston, Texas from Pakistan about 10 years ago. The father is apparently not in the picture, so she worked long, hard days to give her son a good life. According to Minhas' cousin, Atif Iqbal, she gave him everything,

new clothes, cell phones and a new car while she drove an older model.“We fed him with a spoon made out of gold,” Iqbal said. “She worked 14 hours a day to support him.”
And in spite of all her sacrifices Minhas turned around and allegedly hired a schoolmate to murder his own flesh and blood. And it didn't take much money to persuade his friend to kill her. 18-year-old Nur J Mohamad (a Somali native) was satisfied with a promise of $4,000.00 for the job, although he only came out with $1,000.00. That's all he was able to find in the apartment. Authorities believe that she must have struggled hard to survive the vicious attack, since her home was left a mess. According to Police Sgt. Brian Harris,
Khan “was a fighter. She fought for her life. She fought and fought and fought,” Harris said of the slain woman. “That's why the scene was as gruesome as it was.”
She was stabbed a several dozen times.
Although Minhas claimed that he found his mother's body the morning after an all-nighter, police never quite believed his story. He told police that she must have been attacked
..while she was counting money she planned to spend on bills and the traditional Muslim feast of Eid.
which makes the act even more evil- having your mother killed during one of the most holy times of the year for your religion.
And even though the police doubted his story, it wasn't until 6 weeks after the murder that Minhas' actions finally caught up with him, and all through a moment of serendipity: Mohamad was caught with drugs on his high school campus, and his fingerprints were a match for ones found at the crime scene. Bingo. Mohamad confessed to the stabbing and Minhas to soliciting the murder. The reason? Minhas complained his mum was too strict. Apparently he wasn't happy with having to do chores or having a curfew, the usual things teenagers are subjected to, but most don't kill their parents over.
Minhas and Mohamad displayed no emotion about the crime and tried to charm investigators, Harris said.“He's very manipulative, very cunning,” the detective said of Minhas, “and he was trying to put his spin on it.”
Dealing with Khan's son, Harris said, was a “cat-and-mouse game” until he was confronted with Mohamad's statement,
Then Minhas told police he “loved his mother to death” but she was too strict, Harris said. “I don't think he realized how that sounded. … She gave him a curfew, chores and other things a responsible parent does.”
It does seem that kids are becoming more cold and calculated, and that there are more and more crimes like this one, perpetrated by children.
You wonder, what makes someone turn on another human being, especially a family member?
Minhas has been charged with solicitation of capital murder and Mohamad for capital murder. Capital murder is punishable by death, except for children under 18.
