The year 2009 is folding fast, indeed fast as it does, anxiety gathers as the world waits to witness one of its great histories stands the wind or shakes miserably. The history of a peace island that has defied all the odds of Mother Nature, the land of Tanzania-Bongoland as some refer it. As we count down towards 2010 Tanzanian General elections where the peace island will be conducting its fourth multi-party elections for the Presidential seat, Members of Parliament and councilors, great attention has been drawn on the Presidential seat. This calls for a count down towards the election if we are to comprehend the outcome which as experience has in store for us is determined by what happens.
2010 elections countdown finds its cradle way back in 2005 elections process and aftermath, more so in the process. Any speculation as to what holds in store for us has to be informed by the 2005 presidential campaigns especially during CCM presidential candidate nomination process. YES, this must be the starting point, moving through Kikwete’s landslide victory that had never been witnessed before, the winner’s call for camp breaking within CCM, the rise of a new wave in the opposition side with an emerging giant-CHADEMA taking its sway both in Parliament and in the streets through the “OPERATION SANGARA”, uncovering of graft by the media followed by formation of Parliamentary select committee and partial scape-goat prosecutions, turmoil in the mighty CCM, the cry for leadership vacuum and the despise it faced and lastly the debate on whether Kikwete should or should not stand for the customary second term, before analyzing future events as they unfold. YES the count-down has its womb there.
As we drive down the lane towards 2010 election countdown we shall move in the form of series, critically analyzing every move scientifically for a measurable and reliable outcome. Every series shall have a title of it own to reflect the realities underneath it. Each series shall endeavor to reveal in the original word or acts as much as possible followed by a critical analysis that will be as bold as possible and so lets meet at the BUS STOP!.
