Swaziland Justice Minister Fired And Jailed After Being Caught With One Of Polygamist King's Wives

POLITICS. .

What does a man need more than one wife for, let alone 14? But polygamy is something that is practiced in certain religions and in different cultures and men don't seem to understand that this is not something that most women like or accept. Women need, for the most part, more attention than men do, and if they are spreading that attention amongst multiple wives, they are going to get jealous over the lack of attention.

In some cases, the women have no choice but to marry a man with many other wives, as in the case of the King of Swaziland. With 14 wives and counting, he apparently picks and chooses a new wife each year. Young, single, bare-breasted girls are brought together at the 'traditional reed dance' and the 42-year-old King Mswati III gets to pick whichever one he chooses, as if he were choosing a cow to add to his livestock. In this case, it's a wife to add to his harem. But obviously not all these young girls (and they are young) are too happy to be stuck being one of his many wives, and some have actually fled the country after rumours of adulterous affairs started gaining attention. In 2004 two wives actually ran off to London because, apparently, being caught is not something to be relished, as his 12th wife (and her lover) discovered.

The polygamous king of Swaziland has fired his justice minister after the politician was caught red-handed having an affair with one of the king’s 14 wives.

King Mswati III acted after pictures emerged of his minister Ndumiso Mamba hiding in the base of his adulterous wife’s bed.

Rumours that King Mswati III's twelfth wife, 22-year-old Nothando Dube – a former Miss Teen Swaziland – had been having an affair have circulated inside the country for weeks.

While local media are banned from reporting the scandal, it was widely rumoured that Mrs Dube liked to disguise herself as a soldier in order to sneak out of the royal palace and meet her lover undetected.

Mamba, will probably spend a long time in jail, but Nothando will probably have it worse off:

Mrs Dube, who has born the king two children, will spend the rest of her life under 24-hour surveillance while living with the king’s mother.

I'm sure Mswati will continue on his merry way picking up a new wife every year and probably losing some along the way who want more to life than being just one of a plethora of wives. Maybe some women don't mind being neglected, but I would venture to say most do.
