A man has pleaded not guilty to shooting four people in New Jersey and setting their house on fire to cover up the crime.
Attorneys for 36-year-old Rolando Terrell entered the plea Wednesday in Newark. He is charged with killing 40-year-old Candes (KAN’-dis) McLean, her 18-year-old daughter Talia (TAHL’-yah), her 13-year-old stepdaughter Latrisha Fields-Carruthers, and her 18-year-old niece Zakiyyah (zah-KEE’-uh) Jones. He also faces weapons charges.
A fifth woman survived the attack and fled carrying Talia McLean’s 14-month-old son. The toddler was unharmed and was placed with relatives.
Terrell’s attorney Michael Robbins says his client is innocent and was not even at the scene. He says he is asking for prosecutors to disclose the evidence that led to the charges.
