Student commits suicide after made to clean toilet
In yet another case of harassment to the students by the teachers, a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Bhalsua village of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, has allegedly committed suicide after she was forced to clean the school toilet following the failure to deposit her fees on time.

According to reports, the victim Lakshmi was a class 3 student and was the daughter of a daily wage labourer. Laxmi's friends allegedly taunted her for cleaning the toilet, leading to her suicide by hanging herself inside her house. Laxmi's younger brother, who studies at the same school, says she was also asked to remove dog excrement from the school campus.
The principal, Rajesh Pawar, had allegedly asked Laxmi's mother, Reena, a daily wage labourer, to clean the school toilets and offered her a monthly salary of Rs 1000. When she refused, he threatened to charge Reena for Laxmi's education. Local officials had waived the school fees because of the family belongs to low income group.
Her parents say she took the extreme step because she was feeling humiliated for having being forced to clean the school toilet.
It is unthinkable that the Principal of the school asking a student to clean the toilets. Such things should not happen in a civilised society like ours. Students are coming to the school to study and not to clean the toilets. For whatever reasons, the Principal's action is uncalled for and has no approval of the society.
Teachers are held in high esteem in our society and they should not resort to such dirty things.
