'Hemaya'...which is Arabic for 'Protection'..is a new national campaign in Egypt against drug addiction, with the logo of a hand that reads 'stop drugs' and an apple that reads 'change your life'.
The main sponsor of this campaign is the now almost legendary..Amr Khaled
I had to link that because I can't guarantee an objective, and unbiased report of the fellow!
Anyway..I have a few concerns regarding this campaign, that has not hit the television screens yet, however the logo is to be seen very frequently, on bumper stickers, flyers, posters and even some pick up trucks.
I came across their youtube PSA's, here and here..and I just must ask...
Why the hell is the Hemaya anti-addiction campaign ( viewing a PSA on youtube with a plot VERY similar to a certain movie?!?
Why are drug addicts always doing EVERY KIND OF DRUG at the same time plus alcohol?
Why is the narrator the same man who advertises carrier air conditioners and all the other adverts on Egyptian tv?
The fact that Amr Khaled himself said, and i quote "When men turn into addicts, they turn to crime, when women turn into addicts, they turn to prostitution"...and has yet to tackle any female cases in all these PSA's is just...i don't even know! URRGGG!!!
Why is there an Islamic bead counter around the rear-view mirror? How is it of any proper placement here? please!? anyone?
I just can't overlook the fact that the four guys in the car look like they come from different age groups completely!
I can't help but recall The Kefaya campaign (see Kefaya...Enough) when i see the logo..It looks like they're trying to say Enough Apples!
Why is it an anti-addiction campaign, not an anti-drugs campaign?
Why is it coming BEFORE a campaign against domestic violence, and a campaign against sexual abuse, and a campaign against misparenting, and a campaign about our messed up education systems.
Peace..campaign all you want, but tackle the right things at the right time..and realize that your hotline number is way too long for anyone to memorize!
