Sprint specialist Oscar Freire of Spain has won the 14th stage of the Tour de France, with Australia’s Cadel Evans keeping the yellow jersey in the doping-battered race.

Freire prevailed in a sprint at the end of a 120.9-mile trek in hot weather from Nimes to Digne-les-Bains. Saturday’s stage featured some small climbs in the last day before three punishing stages in the Alps.

The race has been marred this year by three riders that were kicked out for doping violations.

Evans defended a 1-second lead over Frank Schleck of Luxembourg and a 38-second gap ahead of American rider Christian Vande Velde.

The gap at the top is excruciatingly close still and I really hope Cadel hangs on to it and improves on it. By the way, Oscar finally won a sprint!Where Robbie this year? He just seems to not have the legs for sprints though he seems to be going a lot better on the mountains. I hope it is not EPO.
