Is Ashura important only for the martyrdom of Hussein (May Allah be pleased with him)?
According to many sources, Ashora is 10th of Mahram in which before the incident of martyrdom of Hussein (may Allah be pleased with him) many other events had occurred which are as following:
1. Almighty God rescued Moses and drowned Pharaoh on this day.
2. Prophet Adam’s repenting was accepted.
3. Prophet Joseph was taken out of the well.
4. Allah Almighty rescued Jonah in the belly of the fish. Also accepted the repent of Jonah’s nation on this day.
5. Prophet Jesus son of Mariam was born.
6. Prophet Noah’s ship has come down on this day.
Therefore we can say Ashura has been an important day before the incident of martyrdom of our beloved prophet’s grandson, Hussein (may Allah be pleased with him).
About the fasting in this day, it is narrated by Ibn Abbas that when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered Madina, noticed that Jewish were fasting in this day. When he asked the reason, Jewish people said, God has rescued Israel from their enemy, and Moses had fasted in this day. Therefore they were fasting.
Hence Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) started fasting in this day also ordered his companions to do so. Besides, included,” if I was alive, I will absorb fasting in 9th and 10th of this month next year. Therefore most Muslims are fasting in these tow days.
