It must be utterly wretched living in Somalia with the likes of al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam both of which are trying to turn the whole country into a living hell for the Somali population. With all their absurd, hardline religious restrictions and mandates they seem more concerned with disciplining teenagers who they allege were watching pornography on their cell phones, then with the fact that they killed pregnant women and children for protesting the beating.
That's what happened recently in the district of Haradhere (in the Mudug region). Twelve people were injured and four people killed (including a pregnant woman and children)when some Hizbul Islam extremists fired into a crowd protesting the beating of several teens in a public square.
A witness claimed that the teens had been accused of watching porn on their cell phones. Of course, what Hizb Islam consider porn could have simply been a soccer game, since sports is considered un-Islamic and has been forbidden. Who really knows what the poor hapless teens actually were guilty of, if anything, but killing people should be considered far more egregious than whatever it is the kids had done.
And of course, as is customary, the spectacle was made public and the locals who were invited to observe became angered, and rightfully so.
According to radio station Shabelle, according to some elders, there are those who were seriously wounded, which means the death toll could rise. Hizbul Islam refused to comment, but I'm sure they could care less that a pregnant woman and children were among the dead, because they have no conscience.
