Slavery in 21st Century
In the past complete subordination and exploitation of man at the hands of man was known as slavery, perfectly acceptable in old times. Over the course of its long history it had achieved a legal status among many nations. The modern day may claim to have put an end to human slavery, however, only the terminology for human slavery has been changed. In the modern age, it still exists in the name of bonded or forced labor, illegal immigration and most common of all human trafficking. The problem exists through out the world ranging from countries like US and Europe to the developing countries of the third world. Victims of human trafficking include men, women and children even of age 4. Most of the time the victims are not aware of their future and that they are being trafficked illegally but in some of the cases they are perfectly aware of it. There are many reasons why a person may succumb to this kind of inhuman treatment. Foremost being the economical instability in poor countries.

Most of these victims are subject to physical and sexual exploitation at the hands of their owners as well as bonded labor. Children in the past had been trafficked to Gulf countries to be used as camel jockeys in the course of which many would die as a result of physical torture and malnutrition. Women form the major section of these victims as most of the time they are either being sold by their own relatives for a few dollars in the poor countries or at times cases such as fake marriages have also been reported in which women were forced into marriages and sent abroad, discovering to their horror that the husband is only an agent supplying women. Being ignorant of the foreign laws they are exploited and threatened of dire consequences and most of the times being forced to enter into prostitution. However, human trafficking is not only limited to prostitution. It also includes forced labor into agricultural and mining. Human trafficking is the major cause of other serious issues as well such as, forced child labor and trafficking of migrant workers by fraudulent labor recruiters. The problem exists to a substantiate level in Pakistan as well however, under Prevention and Control of Human Trafficking Ordinance (PACHTO) various punishments have been introduced, though it would not be irrelevant to add that the system so far has not proved to be effective completely. There is a dire need of establishing a universal network through international collaboration to fight the horrifying fiend of human trafficking or mankind would still be crushed in the wheel of slavery despite of being living in the 21st century.
