Sifwat Ghayoor Killed in Suicide Bombing Attack
Target suicide bombings continue to kill in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the latest victim is FC chief Sifwat Ghayoor, who was killed yesterday afternoon (August 4, 2010), in a suicide bombing attack in Peshawar’s Cantt. area.

The blast took place at the FC Chowk in front of Dean’s Trade Center, which is quite near the FC Headquarters. CCTV footage of the incident shows the blast blowing away the vehicles, including that of Sifwat Ghayoor, which stopped at the traffic signal. Ghayoor was then returning home from office. According to news sources, an eye witness told media that the blast was made by a teenager boy who ran toward the FC Chief’s vehicle when it stopped at the signal. The blast also killed three guards accompanying the FC officer while over a dozen people were left wounded. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The responsibility of the attack has been accepted by Tehreek-e-Taliban of Pakistan. Their spokesman was quoted saying that Sifwat Ghayoor was their target as he was active against them. It is also said that Sifwat Ghayoor had expressed his determination to arrest the killers of Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain’s son. Despite reminders from his well-wishers to increase his personal security, Ghayoor had refused to do so, saying he was an officer on duty who was not afraid of terrorists. This brave officer was cousin to the province’s governor Owais Ghani.
