Shut up or I'll give you a shock!

Children could be seen slouching in manacles such as handcuffs and leg shackles...they have developed a kind of mellowness o'er their face that it's hard to believe their actual age...they have been forbidden to chat, to display an impish behavior or to demonstrate any kind of adamant mannerisms...for them childhood is nothing more than surrendering themselves to their 'instructors'...even the air that fill their lungs have to report to the 'supervisors' first...but wait! penitentiary is not the place where these children are residing rather it's their SCHOOL!

It's called the Judge Rotenberg Education Center, a private radical behavior- modification school based in Canton, Mass. The 'institute' is managed by a callous behaviorist, who has nourished a kind of punishment to inculcate discipline among the children that you might call - electroshock.

'His majesty', the school's executive director, Matthew Israel, along with his subsidiaries administers strong shocks to the children, where the equipments that are employed to carry out the 'task' are home- made in nature. Some of the children underwent the ordeal thousand times in a single day. This process of instilling obedience among the children is also been responsible for several deaths in the school.

Not only this, the institute also provides 'education' to the 'high functioning' kids. These children, for instance, are subjected to automated tutorial programs that are running in front of their computer screens, which they have to witness without 'talking, fidgeting, or acting out' otherwise, the supervisors come up with their technique of disciplining them. You know what I mean?

The school authorities are 'kind enough' by not activating the shock apparatus in front of the children as they don't want them to be mentally or physically prepare for it.

This idea of indoctrinating discipline among the kids has no scientific basis; a report put forward by the New York State Education Department exploded the stereotypical myth which the school was exploiting as their marketing tool that was a 20- year- old film depicting its 'success' and was trying to sway parents to send their wards to the program.

Thinking it to be a genuine program, parents send their kids only to become a prey at their disposal. The authorities have become so unforgiving that even the children have to think twice before sneezing as a little girl was threatened to shock when she did so, accidentally. If we talk about daily necessity like food, well, the children have to 'earn' that by not displaying unwanted behaviors in front of the 'educators', who in fact are 'not certified teachers'.

The center boasts of its shock devices as 'approved' by the FDA which actually is not in reality. Now if you think that all these measures would bring about positive behavior among the kids then you are highly mistaken as there is no evidence of the collection of data on replacement or positive behaviors.

The rhetorical question that emerges out is how can a place like this be allowed to exist so far? Or do we assume that all such horrendous acts are legal in the US? What is a society worth if it can't protect the weak?

Experiences like these would give nightmares to all of the sufferers forget about their getting better. I'm ready to believe that electroshock is a kind of therapy to cure the eccentric behavior but didn't know that some 'bright people' in America are going too far to carry it out. Inflicting pain to the children will not cure them rather it will traumatize them for the rest of their lives- if they happen to survive- and will completely shatter them both psychologically and emotionally.

By the way, one question is hitting my brain again and again, is Dr. Israel a sane man?
