Should Muslims Accept Special Responsibility for Terrorists?
Recently I wrote a piece titled "Muslims You Do Not Hear About" in order to fight the de-humanization of Muslims and show what real Muslim life is about. In a mostly constructive comment whose general point I endorse, a IB commentator wrote:

Whereas Muslims proudly own the good acts committed by their fellows like the ones quoted in the article, they also need to accept wholeheartedly the wrongs done by their fellows in their name. Only then can they, I believe, build on stronger foundations.
I mostly like what the commentator wrote but I strongly reject your statement that Muslims need to "wholeheartedly" accept the wrong done by a few fanatics. Why should they? Why should 1.6billion feel responsible for the actions of 19 hijacker terrorists, actions - it should be noted - that are due to political grievances fostered by the United States.
Muslims have nothing to explain or apologize for. They have no connection to Bin Ladin and cohorts. Bin Ladin's terrorism is an American explanation since Bin Ladin is a consequence of American foreign policy and not of Islam or the Muslim community. Why should Muslims living their normal lives all of sudden feel a special responsibility and accept the responsibility of actions committed by a few extremists?
Do Americans accept the responsibility in the name of Timothy McVeigh, who killed 168innocent people at Oklahoma City?
Of course. It is nothing short of prejudice to demand a special standard of responsibility for Muslims.
The bastard acts of individuals are their sole responsibility and we only play to their egos when he seek to inflate their standing as somehow being a tie-in to the rest of the community who know have to make amends on their behalf.
Muslims should be treated like all other people without special responsibility or special deference and only such an equal and equitable foundation can truly recognize the humanity of all people and be the basis of peace.
