Should Lokpal Bill legislation percolate to other inadequacies in India?

POLITICS. .

Lokpall Bill enactment would definitely pave the way for reigning in corruption in India. People are definitely heaving a sigh of relief having achieved a milestone against the corrupt practices rampant throughout the country.

But is corruption the only disease that is eating away the legitimate profits and fame of the country? In my opinion, it needs much more agitation and many more such upheavals to bring to book and set right the ineptitudes of the political system in various ways of its administration.

Administration of the government departments, proper deployment of tax money, education sector, infrastructure management, agricultural guidance and population control norms and many many more such angles need to be geared up by the bureaucratic machinery.

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal digital edition on the unemployability of Indian students, especially of engineering educated, in various sectors that have global business or need good standards. The points raised there are by several Indian observers who have found that the rote system of Indian learning has produced bookworms and that most of them are unable to face interviews or talk coherently for that matter. That is a true but a shocking revelation. Education system reforms are long overdue. No political party is prepared to bell the cat and see to a thorough and systematic review of education methods to bring them on par with global standards.

At this rate, I am sure, though we boast of attaining a super power stature in the near future, jobs are surreptitiously flying to other Asian countries due to unemployability of most of our so called qualified graduates. Institutions spend huge amounts to train such graduates to make them suitable for employment. I feel time is not far off when the younger population will be left with not many jobs here, due to flight of jobs to other countries. India is thus likely to lose its offshoring premium status on the global job market.

Hence a thorough overhauling of the education to match the growing current needs globally is a prerequisite to an efficient system. Revision of the syllabus imparting life skills, with upgraded curriculum and finishing school education techniques education thus preparing them for future must be the aim. If politicians are left to handle these issues, we know by now that nothing will move as they look to their own electoral ambitions alone. Our next generation will be left high and dry and look elsewhere for opportunities.

Likewise, the government departments must be made to function with professional private sector efficiency. Tax money deployment has to be monitored by citizen activists through transparent budgeting. Economic experts and social activists should be involved in planning and implementation at each stage. After all elected representatives are working for the welfare of the people and should be made thoroughly answerable to the electorate.

Hence it is better to form a panel of eminent businessmen, commerce personnel, educationists, social activists and learned younger population to sit and devise systems for all these fields and then hand over the decision of such panels in all the major fields of administration to the government machinery for passing in the parliament/assembly for merely completing the formalities.

If need be, parliamentary reforms should be drawn and acts suitably modified to devise inclusive administration.

In other words, I feel we need a Lokpall Bill upheaval-like people's movements on an ongoing basis to achieve anything of significance here in India. Let the government speak one word about population control and bring measures and incentives to arrest this massive population increase here.

Let everyone of us rise above political affiliations and assemble for overall betterment of our country. We need this to sustain the current growth, if not achieve super power status. I hope Anna Hazare will lead us all to achieve more such welfare ambitions and aspirations and take every political retrogression to task.

Will Anna Hazare lead another massive upheaval to achieve much more success in much wider fields of Indian growth?

We can all assemble together for these causes and we have already shown we are one.
