Shiv Sena demands action against mosques for using loudspeakers
Close on the heels of its demand for ban on 'burqa' being worn by Muslim women on the plea that it is being misused by the miscreants and anti-social elements for child-lifting and bogus voting, the Shiv Sena has now demanded to the government 'action' against mosques for saying Azaan, the call for prayer, on loudspeakers which the Sena argues is a noise pollution.

The Shiv Sena's demand in this regard comes in the wake of the Congress party-led Maharashtra government's action against the Sena for violating noise pollution norms at its traditional October 17 Dussehra rally at the famous Shivaji Park at Dadar in Mumbai.
I am of the firm opinion that the Shiv Sena has rightly raised the issue to once again expose the vote-bank politics of the Congress party. I think the Sena has a point in their argument.
“In a city like Mumbai, does pollution take place only at Shivteerth(Shivaji Park, where the Dussehra rally was held)? In Bhendibazaar, Behrampada, loudspeakers atop Masjids say Azaan in the morning and ruin people’s sleep. They cause disruption in kids’ studies. Action must be taken against these loudspeakers, which trouble the aged, infirm and the sick,” Shiv Sena argued.
Is there anything wrong in the argument?. At least I don't see any. If the Sena's rally did violate noise norms, so is the loudspeakers atop the mosques. The government should immediately initiate action against the mosques.
Remember, the Shiv Sena has been holding this annual rally at Shivaji Park for the last more than 40 years.
Well done, Shiv Sena, for exposing the vote-bank politics of the political parties. There cannot be one set of rules for mosques and another set of rules for others.
