Shahid Afridi Under Fire for Making Negative Comments about India
Pakistan’s cricket team’s captain Shahd Khan Afridi has become the object of criticism following his negative comments about Indian media and people. His comments passed on a private TV channel during an interactive talk show have been called immature and untimely while Afridi has followed up by saying he was being misquoted.

During the talk show Faisala Aap Ka, aired 2nd April 2011 on Samaa TV, Shahid Afridi said that Muslims have a heart greater than any other people and others can’t have a heart like them. He said it was difficult to maintain good relations with India for long no matter how long talks are held with them. He also criticized Indian media for their negative approach and thinking, saying that Pakistani media is much better than that of India. Afridi also reproved Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Pakistan’s Interior Minister for issuing “stupid statements”.
Shaid Afridi’s comments were criticized both within and outside Pakistan. Ex-cricketer Amir Sohail called Afridi’s comments “immaturish and untimely”. Many Indian publications also slammed Afridi’s irresponsible comments.
Today, after a chain of criticism circled around his comments on the show, Afridi told media that he is being misinterpreted and his comments placed out of context. He also said that media should stop making issues of trivia.
