Seth Hancock, managing partner of Claiborne Farm, has stepped down from the Churchill Downs Inc. board of directors after 35 years.
Hancock, whose family has run the stallion farm in Paris, Ky., since 1915, was elected to the board at Churchill Downs in 1973. During his years on the board, CDI grew into one of the racing industry’s leading companies. CDI owns tracks in four states as well as several off-track betting facilities. The company has expanded to include television production
Hancock took over Claiborne Farm in 1973 at the age of 23 and syndicated the great Secretariat for a record $6 million. Secretariat won the Triple Crown later that year and stood at stud on the farm until his death in 1992.
