Gone are the Days of Paper Greeting Cards
“Sigh! Wish I could go back to those days…” this is something that I always say when I think of the good old school days. Barring a few individuals, most of the people would agree with the statement that school days are the best days of one’s life.
It is that time of our lives where we are truly in a “tension free” environment. There aren’t any worries about career, money, life and all the other stuff that we adults usually think about. All we do is dream about reaching the sky someday. As kids we did have our share of problems like not finishing homework on time, or forgetting some important books at home, or scoring bad marks in some tests, and worst, to get those tests signed by our parents! Apart from these minor problems, school life used to be really chilled. 10th standard did mark the beginning of competition and peer pressure, still, we did manage to have a lot of fun. Remember throwing chalks or making airplanes out paper?
Who can ever forget getting punished in school? Whether it was for incomplete homework, or for being naughty or simply for being a part of a noisy bunch of kids; all of us have experienced it. Getting punished itself was an exciting experience.
Now the best thing about school, which is, undoubtedly, FRIENDS! Before school, our social circle comprised our family, relatives and neighbors; all the people who are not chosen by us. School is the first place where we create our own social circle; first place where we get the right to choose the people we want to be with…our friends! School friends are often considered to be the truest and most special of the species. The foundations of such friendships are so strong that even the mightiest of storm cannot uproot them. The reason might lay in the fact that school friends literally “grow up” together; they pass through few very important phases of life together. They like us for being “who” we are, rather than “what’ we are! The best thing about school friends is that wherever life takes us, for them we still remain the same old pal. They call us with the same old stupid names even years after passing out!
Moving on, there are many first-of-its-kind events during this phase. For example, the first time we ever we go out for a movie or to the mall without our folks at home, or the first time we go for a trip/picnic with friends. The first time we step on the stage or the first time, the first sports day, the first pat on the back and the first time we flunk a test (for some this may happen in college and for some the event may never occur)!
The first crush! Someone whose face always remains clearly etched in our memories… for most of us this someone is either a classmate, or some chick/guy that we saw while on our way from/to school. Some may find the “love of their life” in school (that seldom happens, but the phenomenon does exist)!
These are just some of the things that make school time memorable. On giving a closer look, we will find that there are so many other things that made it the “golden period” of our lives. Even the thought of these times relieves us from the tensions and worries of our current lives. For once let’s just go back into time and relish the moments once again, and what we will discover would be just happiness. And if I have to describe my school life in a few words, it will be:
So many unspoken words, so many tears for joy,
So many stories untold, those were my school days!
