Saudi Hate Textbooks In London

The Wahhabi zealots who control the Saudi education system are notorious for their bigoted screeds, which are commonly found in Saudi educational textbooks.

After September 11th, under pressure from the U.S. Congress Saudi Arabia pledged a campaign to "reform" its educational texts. But after years of supposedly "reform" the Wahhabi clerics still dictate the education of youth and a recent article in The Economist noted that Saudi parents were alarmed this past fall when at the start of the school season textbooks for 12-year olds included a passage which stated that it is impermissible for Muslims to shake the hands of non-Muslims. If this constitutes "reform", don't laugh yet.

This is an actual improvement for the Wahhabis. A genuine moderation when you consider what the pre-reform texts said about non-Muslims (especially Jews).

A recent BBC News report documents that radical and hateful Saudi textbooks have made their way into English schools. This is not surprising given the amount of money the Saudis pour into "charities" to promote the Wahhabi ideology. And these texts were actually provided by the Saudi government:

The 30-minute “Panorama” program quoted the Saudi government-supplied textbook as saying that Jews “looked like monkeys and pigs,” and that Zionists set out to achieve “world domination.” The program quoted a separate part of the curriculum — for children as young as 6 — saying that someone who is not a believer in Islam at death would be condemned to “hellfire.”

One of the textbooks, according to the BBC program, prescribed execution as the penalty for gay sex, and outlined differing viewpoints as to whether death should be by stoning, immolation by fire or throwing offenders off a cliff. Another set out the punishments prescribed by Shariah law for theft, including amputation of hands and feet. A BBC video accompanying an article on the program’s Web site showed a textbook illustration of a hand and a foot marked to show where amputations should be made.

And what did the Saudi Embassy in London say about all this: "disavowed direct responsibility for the schools and clubs and described the teachings cited in the program as having been “taken out of their historical context.”"

Direct responsibility? They actually bought for and donated the texts which were produced by government-salaried clerics in Saudi Arabia.

"Historical context"? In what context, prey tell, would such Wahhabi filth be better understood or acceptable?

This is the crap the Saudis promote. Note well: The Wahhabi ideology at the heart of the kingdom is no different than Bin Ladin's ideology, the latter's sole dispute with the Saudi royals is over foreign policy while he neatly agrees with domestic policy. But the Saudis get away and plead innocence and pretend that their official radical, hate-filled is some sort of "culture" worthy of respect. They pretend that the is Wahhabi and then radical Wahhabi, when Wahhabi is Wahhabi and it is all rotten and awful.

The British government will, of course, do little about this: "But Mr. Gove appeared to be at pains not to allow the issue to develop into a confrontation with Saudi Arabia."

Western regimes are loath to ever criticize Saudi Arabia because of the dates, or is it the oil?

Finally, Saudi textbooks are the most hateful in the Mideast but the nation is not alone. Israel, that democracy [sic], is not far behind in its hate:

Like American textbooks in relation to Indians, “Israeli textbooks continue to present Jews as industrious, brave and determined to cope with the diffi culties of ‘improving the country in ways they believe the Arabs are incapable of.’”15Bar-Tal explains that the textbooks stereotype Arabs as “unenlightened, inferior, fatalistic, unproductive and apathetic … . ‘The message was that the Palestinians were primitive and neglected the country and did not cultivate the land.’”16Arabs, according to the textbooks, “burn, murder, destroy, and are easily inflamed,” and are described in the following terms: “tribal, vengeful, exotic, poor, sick, dirty, noisy, colored.”17

Another study, by Eli Podeh of the Hebrew University, suggests that “while certain changes in Israeli textbooks are slowly being implemented, the discussion of Palestinian national and civil identity is never touched upon … . ‘Especially evident is the lack of a discussion on the orientation of Palestinians to the [occupied] territories.’”18A 17-year-old Israeli high school student observes that “our books basically tell us that everything the Jews do is fine and legitimate and Arabs are wrong and violent and are trying to exterminate us.”19

The student’s observation is corroborated by Adir Cohen’s 1999 An Ugly Face in the Mirror, which presents some disturbing survey results: among fourth to sixth-grade Jewish children at a school in Haifa “seventy fi ve percent … described the ‘Arab’ as a murderer, one who kidnaps children, a criminal and a terrorist. Eighty per cent said they saw the Arab as someone dirty with a terrifying face. Ninety per cent of the students stated they believe that Palestinians have no rights whatsoever to the land in Israel or Palestine.”20 Among 1,700 children’s books published since 1967, Cohen “found that 520 of [them] contained humiliating, negative descriptions of Palestinians … . Sixty six per cent of the 520 books refer to Arabs as violent; 52 per cent as evil; 37 per cent as liars; 31 per cent as greedy; 28 per cent as two-faced; 27 per cent as traitors, etc.”21

Furthermore, Cohen “counted the following descriptions used to dehumanize Arabs: murderer was used 21 times; snake, 6 times; dirty, 9 times; vicious animal, 17 times; bloodthirsty, 21 times; warmonger, 17 times; killer, 13 times; believer in myths, 9 times; and a camel’s hump, 2 times.”22Cohen didn’t complete his study in a vacuum, for it concludes that such descriptions of Arabs are part and parcel of convictions and a culture rampant in Hebrew literature and history books. He writes that Israeli authors and writers confess to deliberately portraying the Arab character in this way, particularly to their younger audience, in order to infl uence their outlook early on so as to prepare them to deal with Arabs.23 If the goal of these children’s books is to prepare Israeli youth to “deal” with Arabs, it appears to be working. Israel’s brutal occupation continues five years later, with the usual assortment of child murders, live burials, home demolitions, crop destruction, land expropriation, extrajudicial assassinations, curfews, humiliation, rapes, torture, and dispossession, all of which, no doubt, are prepared by the dehumanization of Arabs with which Israeli children are inundated.

But, of course, the U.S. media never reports about the hate in Israeli culture, and only obsessed about the "culture of hate" (in the parlance of Zionist propaganda) of Palestinians.
