Saudi Arabian Boycott Fatwa Against Switzerland for Minaret Ban
Okay, first of all lets get one thing straight: banning Minaret's is NOT banning Islam. It's not as if Switzerland placed a ban on mosques or Muslims practicing their faith. No-one voted on preventing Muslims from worshipping in that country. They simply do not want minarets attached to mosques. Soli Pardo, a Swiss man of Turkish heritage who apparently is the "architect" behind the Swiss minaret ban, had this to say about the whole issue:
"Regarding the referendum, he said: “We do not believe that the minarets are linked to worship because no calls to prayer are made from the minarets. We are not against building mosques but against 5- to 6 meter-tall minarets.”
The main reason for the ban was that minarets are viewed as
symbols of rising Muslim political power that could one day transform Switzerland into an Islamic nation.
And rightfully so. There is a major difference between political Islam and the religion itself. Or at least there should be. Every western nation has the right to fight against the potential of becoming an Islamic nation, especially considering the fact that Islamic states have no tolerance, whatsoever, for other religions. Which brings me to Saudi Arabia's self-righteous indignation, and their subsequent call to boycott Switzerland because of the ban.
The UAE-based newspaper al-Bayan reported that religious moderator Khaled al-Shamrani called for afar-reaching boycott on all good and products originating in Switzerland. He also called upon Muslims to avoid traveling to the country. Religious figure Ahmed al-Hassan called wealthy Muslims to withdraw their deposits from Swiss banks. (Roee Nahmias)
If it's true, what breathtaking gall! A country that doesn't allow building of churches etc. on its own land, and is particularly hostile to Christianity , becomes outraged that a western country bans the building of a part of a mosque? What hypocrisy. Maybe we should boycott Saudi Arabia.
As for everyone else who is fuming about the whole issue: get a life. A church steeple, or minaret on a mosque does not a religion make. Muslims will have a reason to cry "intolerance" if ever their religion is outright banned in a western country, which won't happen, since westerners are far more tolerant.
