There are few men in American public life more vulgar than Rush Limbaugh. This is a fat extremist who sits from his preach preaching self-righteous spew. This is a guy who once told a black caller to 'take that bone out of your nose' and compared the degrading and grotesque torture at Abu Gharib prison to nothing more than troops blowing off steam and frat-housing.

And he is a hypocrite, to boot. For years he preached a zero-tolerance policy against even the most innocent and casual of private drug users. This applied, in his myopia, even to marijuana users for purposes of healing pain. But then he revealed that he was a serial abuser of prescription drugs (which raises a whole other issue of why such drugs are readily available and pot is subject to criminalize laws) and asked for the understanding and forgiveness he never demonstrated.

For those unfamiliar, the invaluable Media Matters consistently offers a list of Rush's Greatest (or, rather, Worst) Hits. A long list of racism, lies, militantness and just general grotesque behavior which is a sad reflection of American life.

Rush's biggest target now is, naturally, President Obama. A shrill for Republicans, he attacks Obama without reservation and never gives him credit for anything even when the president does the very things (such as cutting taxes) which Rush claims to support.

And he is keen on portraying Obama as nothing more than a radical socialist who is an illegitimate president bent on destroying the America he secretly hates.
