Rush Limbaugh And Zionist Indifference to Anti-Semitism

Although supporters of Israel are always quick to attack critics of the Jewish state as vulgar anti-Semites, the state of Israel and Zionists are no strangers to alliances and friendships with anti-Semitism.

Englishman Chaim Weizmann, one of the founding fathers of Zionism and Israel’s first president, played on the anti-Jewish prejudice of many British public office holders in his efforts to secure British support for the establishment of a Jewish state. Weizmann often told his listeners that a Jewish state would mean less Jews in Great Britain; something naturally desired by anti-Semitic persons.

Israel and Zionists have never been uniformly opposed to anti-Semitism, just anti-Zionism. All they care about is one’s support for Israel - never mind the reason and never mind if that person harbors anti-Semitic views. That is why Zionists have an alliance with the American Christian Right - many of whom are anti-Semitic but only support Israel because they believe that the Jews must control the Holy Land in order for Jesus to return. The story does not end well for the Jews (2/3 dead, 1/3 converted to Christianity), but Zionists do not mind as long as it means support for Israel in the here and now.

If any critic of Israel were to hold the exact same views of the Christian Right they would be savagely attacks for bigotry, but Israeli leaders do not mind hugging anti-Semitic, pro-Zionists Christians Rightists.

It is all about Zionism and anti-Semitism is. at best, a secondary concern and primary an accusation to be thrown at any honest critic of Israel.

Case in point:

"There has been controversy recently over statements made by radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh about Jewish voting patterns, political ties and the recent Massachusetts election. We are deeply dismayed by the unfounded criticism of the talk show commentator's observations," read a statement issued Wednesday by several Jewish organizations, including American Friends of Likud, the news monitoring group CAMERA, Emunah of America, the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, National Council of Young Israel, Religious Zionists of America and Z-Street.

"While one may agree or disagree with Mr. Limbaugh's views on many subjects, his outspoken support for Israel has been eloquent, informed and undeniable. Moreover, in commentary on the Jewish people, he has been nothing short of a philo-Semite. We are grateful for his strong and singular voice on these issues," concluded the statement.

During a Jan. 20 broadcast following Republican Scott Brown's upset victory in the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts, Limbaugh wondered if Jews -- nearly 80 percent of whom backed Barack Obama in 2008 -- were having second thoughts about the president.

Limbaugh's remarks were criticized by the Anti-Defamation League last week, which called them "offensive and inappropriate."

So when you play on the old anti-Jewish canard that 'Jews control the banks' it is excused if one is pro-Israel. Yes, Jewish-American groups criticized him but their criticism is null and void when the next sentence is 'sure he comments are unfounded, but, hey, give the man a break he does love Israel'. They 'balance' their criticism of anti-Semitism with praise for Limbaugh's support for Israel and their desperate gratitude. In doing so, they make it clear that in their book they will criticism anti-Semitism out of necessity but really do not care and will still support you if you are pro-Zionist. In that they are sending a message to American anti-Semitic personalities and their audiences: give yourself insurance against the accusation of anti-Semitism by sprinkling your prejudiced words with praise for Israel. That is all that matters. Limbaugh is a barbarian, but he is pro-Israel not out of love for Jews but his larger prejudice for Muslims - and that is all well and good for Zionists.
