Roof collapse at the wedding leaves behind 60 Deaths in Baghlan, Afghanistan
Roof collapse at a wedding left behind more than 60 deaths in the northern province of Baghlan.

According to the local officials, the incident took place in a village locality known as “Jilga” located in one of the remotest districts of this province. The incident left behind more than 60 deaths mostly women and children who had gathered in a 3 story-building to celebrate the occasion. The incident took place on Wednesday at around 1:00 pm local time.
In Afghan traditional marriage ceremonies, women and children celebrate the occasion separately in a room (space) away from men.
According to the provincial governor and District Police Chief, the roof of the 3rd floor collapsed when the women and children were busy in celebrating the occasion. The officials have also reported a further 40 people injured in the incident.
Poor building codes and use of substandard material in construction make such buildings more vulnerable to collapsing. Another such incident last year left behind tens of deaths and scores of others injured in the northern province of Kunduz.
