Rehman Malik Again Denies Blackwater’s Presence in Pakistan
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik has again denied the presence of Blackwater in Pakistan, two days after US Defense Secretary Robert Gates told a private TV channel that Blackwater was working in Pakistan in private capacity. Malik said that Robert Gates had been misquoted by the media.

Talking to media on Saturday, January 23, 2010, Rehman Malik said that Robert Gates talked to him and told him that he had been misquoted by media and had fallen prey to a conspiracy. Malik reiterated that Blackwater has no presence in Pakistan and certain elements were creating a buzz about it. He challenged any and all who claimed Blackwater’s presence in Pakistan to come forward and prove their claim by means of documented evidence.
The issue of Blackwater’s presence has been in news for several months and has become a core issue tied to the question of Pakistan’s independence. For Mr. Malik, it is also a question of public image and trust since in November 2009, Mr. Malik had stated that he would resign from his position if Blackwater’s presence was proved in Pakistan.
