The following recalls have been announced:

_ About 36,000 Harry Potter bookends, made in Hong Kong and imported by Giftco Inc., because the paint on the bookends contains high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested by children. No incidents or injuries have been reported. The recalled bookends, which are painted and shaped into characters of the Harry Potter book series, were sold at elementary school fundraising programs and discount and dollar stores nationwide from June 2004 through January 2006. Details: by phone at 888-448-6728; by Web at http://mail.giftcoinc.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

_ About 30,000 Gotham compact fluorescent downlights, made in the U.S. and China by Gotham Lighting, because the relay on the light’s backup battery could be programmed incorrectly and prevent the lights from functioning in an emergency. No injuries have been reported. The recall involves recessed ceiling lights sold by electrical distributors and sales representatives nationwide from November 2007 through July this year. Only lights sold with the optional backup battery pack are included in the recall. Details: by phone at 800-315-4982; by Web at http://www.gothamlighting.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.
