Punctual Sleep for a healthy life

LIFESTYLE. .

Have you ever noticed that the day goes well for you if you had slept at 10PM the previous night and got up at six in the morning? Bingo. That is the latest out of medical research. Your alertness and general health depends a lot on your sleep patterns.

The scientific rationale is the fact that the sleep centres of the brain get activated when the body temperature dips to a certain level and get inactivated when the temperature rises above that. This is also a direct result of the ambient temperature of the surroundings. It is generally noted that the body performs maximum functions apart from basal metabolism between 9AM and 9PM. After 9PM, the only extraneous function performed by the human body apart from basal metabolism is the digestion of food consumed for dinner. This also increases the level of blood glucose which is also a stimulating factor for the sleep center of the human brain. No wonder that 10PM seems to be the best time to hit the bed.

Another factor determining the intensity of sleep one gets is the activity that was being performed prior to sleeping. Contrary to belief, reading a book or watching a movie might not be the ideal somniacs. Instead watching a programme on National Geographic or listening to music or even indulging in a sexual act have been proven to lead to a healthy, comfortable and deep sleep. This is because these activities can calm down the human brain.

Also important is the type of food one eats for dinner. A spicy diet is not always ideal for a good sleep as spices contain certain chemicals that do not allow the brain to shut down effectively.

The body's biological clock is one amazing time piece. Once a person is used to sleeping and awakening at a particular time, the body keeps that in its dynamic memory and rings an alarm for you to get up at exactly that time. People using alarm clocks daily would appreciate the fact that their body alarm rings just a minute or so before the alarm clock does and they wake up in time to snooze it. All this happens when the body is in a comfortable state of mind, free of tensions and gets it regular dose of sleep.
