President Museveni Angered by Rumours That His Government Burnt Heritage Site
President Museveni visibly angered for the numerous rumours doing the rounds that the recently burnt Kasubi tombs heritage site was act by the government, has vowed "dire consequences" for anybody publicly coming out to accuse his government of "wicked and slanderous lies". Quoted in the Daily Monitor

“I am waiting for someone to say so publicly and I really deal with him ... I am really dying to lay my hands on such a person,” he told a press conference at State House, Entebbe. “If anybody is not yet sure of the evil and wicked intentions of some of these elements, a slander like this is part of the proof.”
Reasons why the Public suspects President Museveni's government
1. Mysterious unsolved fires:
The Kasubi tombs fire joins a series of other mysterious unsolved fires that have rocked Kampala in recent months. The most notable fire is one that burnt down budo junior school leaving behind ashes of 20 children. Another destroyed a Owino shopping market where hundreds of local people have stalls selling second-hand goods. All the fires were investigated by the police but until today, they are unsolved and no official report has ever been published. No wonder the kingdom and the public are insisting on an independent inquiry which reflects a loss of trust in the police investigation.
2. The September Kampala riots are not helping matters either because it is then, that the fallout between the government and the Buganda kingdom reached climax.
3. Buganda Kingdom Federal government. The kingdom has been at the forefront advocating for a federal system of government, a request the central government has refused to grant.
4. The central government is renting many of the kingdom's properties and refusing to pay the Kingdom citing lack of money. This, of course, is not pleasing the kingdom which suspects that the government is under a ploy to drive it to bankruptcy.
5. Shutting of CBS. This is the official Buganda kingdom radio station that was shut down during the september kampala riots that remains closed till this day. This is has not gone down to the baganda who blame President Museveni for taking down one of their main sources of income and mobilization.
President Museveni needs a miracle towards mending his relationship with Buganda before the presidential elections come around in February 2011, short of that, he will definitely not have their vote.
