Position of Women in Hindi Cinema

Women are a major part of our hindi cinema.Meena kumari,Madhubala,Rani mukherjee,Madhuri dixit there are many women who have done tremendous work in bollywood industry and gave their hand in raising it up to a standard level.Like our society,women have also marked a change in hindi cinema.Apart from the sweet,simple,romantic,beautiful stereotypical image of a bollywood actress they are moving towards more bold roles like in chameli,chandini bar,water etc.Actresses like Rekha have performed characters as a tafayef(slut), but new characters are more easy to connect with.we have a better story,better direction,better costumes,and better characters to mark a change.But is the representation of women in cinema have really changed.?If it is so,then why the need for glamor is increasing day by day in our cinema.How many movies that have been successful in breaking the stereotypical image of women have become popular with the common man.Why is the demand for more glamorized ,sexy, roles are become necessary to stay a hold in the bollywood?Are those challenging characters are played to represent the unquestioned aspects of life or only to be awarded in national film festivals?.Why Shahrukh khan and Amitabh bacchan are more versatile actors than rani and aishwarya? The bollywood industry has not yet broken subjectiveness of women in cinema,stereotypical image has definitely changed,but the phenomenon for fame is the same.
