Politicians with criminal attrition

POLITICS. .

A vow of a POTA detainee to send as many parliamentarians as possible makes an interesting reading in the present context of Indian Polity. “New Muslim outfit flexes muscle”,-“Deccan Chronicle” - March 16/2009 one of the leading Tamil Nadu dailies reveals this horrific news on its front page.

A study conducted by “National Election Watch-NEW” reports, “As many as 29 Lok Sabha candidates from various parties have criminal records, according to an analysis made as part of a national campaign by NGOs”

It further states, “Of the 29 candidates with criminal background, three are of the BSP, two of the CPI-M, six of the Congress, one of the CPI, 11 of the BJP and six of the Samajwadi Party” states the study.

It is a trend of the present politics that there should have heavy criminals backed by idiosyncratic elements. Some crook politicians have been responsible for empowering the Poll-Nazis, to capture the booths, and to rig them. This kind of news is nothing new in some of the politically hot areas of the country.

Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee rightly alluded,”You do not deserve one paisa of public money…. I hope all of you are defeated in the election”

On New Delhi, Dec 12/2008(Friday) (IANS) reports,” As many as 125 candidates with criminal records have won in assembly elections of five states that have just concluded, according to a study conducted by the National Election Watch (NEW). ,” Jagdeep S. Chhokar (National Election Watch) said at a press conference here Friday.

”There are 125 candidates with criminal records who have been elected in these state assembly elections in a nationwide campaign comprising of more than 1,200 NGOs.”

By the studies conducted, one could easily realise that, of the 125, as many as 49 legislators belong to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 59 to Congress and 17 to other parties. There is appalling information available that several candidates who have cases of serious criminal charges such as murder, attempt to murder and kidnapping against them, have been enjoying the political arena to their criminal immunity. This is how Chhokar added.

How one can evaluate which party is in clean hands. By the histories of Indian politics, we never failed to see political dramas. While a Prime Minster had to win. The no confidence motion, criminally charged and locked up Members of Parliament was brought physically to take part in voting.

Opposition parties immediately pulled the rug behind of their parent parties by crossing the floor. By these we should understand how the elected representative are faithful to the people who elected them with hopes and dreams.
