Phillips fails to make US team in long jump

Reigning Olympic long jump champion Dwight Phillips has failed to qualify for the Beijing Games, finishing fourth at the U.S. track and field trials.
Trevell Quinley, Brian Johnson and Miguel Pate have made the team instead.
Phillips’ longest jump was 26 feet, 11 inches (8.20 meters) _ less than an inch behind third-place finisher Pate. Phillips also was a two-time world champion and three-time U.S. champion.
