Palestinian Flag Over Arc de Triomphe
Yesterday I noted the news that the Paris mayor dedicated a street in the capital city after Israel's first prime minister David Ben-Gurion. A national shame for France.
he mayor of Paris in a ceremony attended by Israel’s president Shimon Peres had dedicated a street which gives way to the Seine river after one of the founding fathers of Zionism and the first prime minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion.
Peres naturally gave a speech which exalted Ben-Gurion as, in his words, one of the greatest men. And the Paris mayor expressed his support for the naming of the street.
But many French protested. Many members of the city council have sought to get a street named after Yasir ‘Arafat, the late leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization and many left-wing activists protested at the dedication ceremony. These activists cited the fact that such a dedication is ignoble given the role Ben-Gurion played in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948 and that his behavior is serving as a precedent for Israel’s on-going, about much more slower, ethnic cleansing and threats of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians today. Bne-Gurion also wages wars against Egypt and invaded the Sinai and only left after U.S. president Eisenhower forced him to.
Peres is, of course, a Zionist propagandist while the French mayor is a Zionist himself who probably harbors prejudice against Arab as many members of the arrogant and aloof French elite.
Here’s Ben-Gurion’s record:
David Ben-Gurion, wrote a letter to his son a few years before Israel was founded calling for the ethnic cleansing of Arabs. In his first encounter with Arabs he referred to them as children, children to be dismissed and pushed aside so that the adult Jews could build their state on the ethnically cleansed and ruined Palestine. And that it what happened.
Ben-Gurion himself spoke with contempt against Oriental Jews and declared that the state of Israel was not built for them.
Instead, it is the Jews of Europe whom are “the leading candidates for citizenship in the State of Israel. Hitler, more than he hurt the Jewish people, whom he knew and detested, hurt the Jewish State, whose coming he did not foresee. He destroyed the substance, the main and essential building force of the [Jewish] state. The state arose and did not find the nation which had waited for it.” [Segev, 157].
More than that, Ben-Gurion attacked the Jews of North Africa:
“Even the immigrant of North Africa, who looks like a savage, who has never read a book in his life, not even a religious one, and doesn’t even know how to say his prayers, either wittingly or unwittingly has behind him a spiritual heritage of thousands of years. . . .”
And on and on it the list of dishonorable and criminal comments and deeds by this promoter of ethnic cleansing. This guy isn't fit to have a public restroom named after him.
Well, this morning the Palestinians took their revenge when they took a symbol of Paris and turned it into a symbol of Palestinian persistence and resistance.

Go Palestine!
