A tour operator says Pakistani rescuers have spotted two Italian mountaineers on one of the world’s deadliest peaks. A third Italian climber with them is believed to have died after a fall.
Rashid Ahmad says Simon Kehrer and Walter Nones were alive and rescuers on Saturday dropped food and radio sets for them at an altitude of about 19,685 feet.
Ahmad says the climbers have been stranded on Nanga Parbat in northern Pakistan since July 16 when their colleague Karl Unterkircher plunged into a ravine.
He says the rescuers plan to use a Pakistan army helicopter to transport them to their base camp. He is a spokesman for a tour company which helped organize the expedition.
