Pakistani Polygamist Beaten By Wives Over Planned Fifth Wife
Speaking in generalities, women have a tendency to be more monogamous then men. I think there are men who would be perfectly happy to have multiple relationships, and in some cases wives. And it's not just rooted in religion, since there have always been stories about bigamists and polygamists, although the bigamists usually hide the fact they have two families, and are usually not involved in two marriages out of any religious compunction. But there are many men (and, yes, there are women too) who have no problem cheating on their spouses and you have to wonder if they had the chance, and polygamy was legal, would they choose to take on multiple wives?

Yes, in some Islamic countries polygamy is permitted, and many Muslims in countries where it isn't legal still find a way to have multiple wives. But it's not just Islam, in Christianity you have the Mormons (some of them at least) who believed in plural marriages until it was outlawed. And even though it's illegal in the U.S. today, there are some Mormons who still practice polygamy. There's even a reality TV show called "Sister Wives" about a real life polygamist family, and the hugely popular HBO TV series "Big Love" about a fictional polygamous family in Utah. But I think for the most part women find the whole idea of sharing their mate with other women abhorrent. Religion or not. And when faced with sharing their man with yet another wife, will show their displeasure in some surprising ways.
Take Mian Ishaq, a Pakistani polygamist, who has four wives. According to them, Ishaq was planning on wedding a fifth, and although he denies it, two of the women took things into their own hands and crashed a friend's wedding party (where he was a guest with his third wife) and publicly beat their husband with their shoes. One guest said: "All the women got together and beat him with shoes. They slapped him and swore at him. It was madness."
Ishaq claims he has only three wives, and that the women are lying: "This is a blatant lie. I am willing to swear on my life that I only have three wives. They have already invented one wife for me and now are trying to convince people that I am trying for a fifth."
He told reporters that the two disgruntled wives Uzma and Mehvish, were seeking a divorce, but who knows if this is true or whether he's just trying to cover his proverbial behind.
Whatever the truth might be, never underestimate the jealousy of a wife, or in this case wives.
