Pakistan Claims Victory over Sri Lanka in Group Match
Despite cricket fans’ low confidence in Pakistani team, it proved its competitiveness in the second group match against host team Sri Lanka on Saturday, February 26, 2011, in Colombo. Pakistan secured victory over the Sri Lankan side by 11 runs after some thrilling game.

Batting first, Pakistan scored a total of 277 runs for a loss of 7 wickets at the completion of 50 overs. Younas Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq both proved Pakistan’s batting asset with Younas hitting 72 and Misbah 83. The Sri Lankan batting squad took a confident start, reaching 76 in 15 overs without losing any wickets. But then the winds changed as Shahid Afridi stepped in to bowl, sending two batsmen out in quick succession.
With 4 of its batsmen out for a total score of 94, pressure started building up on the host team. However, their latter batting line gave the team a shoulder by moving steadily ahead, till they reached 266 in 50 overs, falling 11 runs short of victory.
Pakistan’s victory boosted the team’s confidence as well as that of millions of fans back home who are praying for their teaks; success. So far, Pakistan has won both of its group matches and has 4 points. On March 03, 2011, Pakistan will play Canada in Colombo.
